Use a 1/8 th oz. The general setup is a 1-ounce sinker tied to the end of your main line, with a couple leaders spaced 18 inches apart. Live minnows are the crappie favorite. Depending on the location and conditions, insects and bugs are also part of the crappie staple, as are the fingerlings of other fish species.

Drag-Lining / Tight-Lining. This might be the technique for you.

You can also use them with crappie fishing with jigs. split shot sinker 6”-24” above an appropriate sized hook. This rig (aka the Crappie Rig) is best utilized while trolling.

Crappie do have a fussy side when it comes to lure colors. Bobber rigs are probably the most common rig to use when fishing with minnows.

Fishing deep water? In my books, there is no better bait for crappie.
